Microsoft Word has the ability to insert lots of different symbols for those that work with technical and legal documents. For instance, if you press Ctrl-Alt-C you will get the copyright symbol. If you press Ctrl-Alt-T you get the trademark symbol and Ctrl-Alt-R will generate the registered symbol. If you really want to get "symbolic" click on the Insert menu, then on Symbol... to see the complete list of available options!
