Tip of the Week: Run as Administrator in Vista

Windows Vista is clearly a much more secure operating system than Windows XP but with higher levels of security come more roadblocks when you want to make changes to your system.

One of the most common frustrations for folks new to the administration of a Vista system is, by default, many profiles aren't allowed to install system changing programs unless they are the adminstrator.

Rather than logging off as your current user and logging back in as the administrator, you can simply right-click on the install program and tell it to 'Run as Administrator' (if you are in a limited user profile, you will be required to type in the credentials for the Administrator account.)

Security: Phishing activity up in July

Phishing attacks rose 52% in July while spam as a percentage of all e-mail stayed about the same compared with the previous month, according to the latest reports from Symantec that tracked spam and phishing activity for the month.

News: Microsoft's Bing invaded by pill scammers

Weekly Advice Column: Is Twitter safe after the attack?

Any highly publicized Internet attack often generates a lot of concern and sometimes hysteria that causes folks to be confused about what really happened.

If you are concerned about continuing to use Twitter, DON'T BE!

This Week's Show: How YOU may be responsible for Cyber attacks

This week's Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on Twitter was surprising to many, but the most surprising part is that you may have been a part of the attack without even knowing it!

Why Twitter? Who did this? What was the motivation?

DDoS attacks are actually launched by a single person behind a single machine that just happens to be able to remotely control thousands of infected computers (called a botnet) around the Internet.

How do you become part of these silent networks? How can you tell if you are currently infected by a botnet agent? How can you avoid them altogether?

Listen in as the Data Doctors discuss the past, present & future of cyber attacks and the role you play!

Join us Saturdays from 12:00PM-2:00PM (Pacific) on News 92.3 KTAR or listen LIVE via the Internet at KTAR.com  as we discuss your computer questions at: 602.277.5827 or ask your questions during (or before) the broadcast using the ask a question page.
