Tip of the Week: Beyond Google Docs

You've heard us talk about 'cloud computing' many times in the past and one of the most popular sites for using the 'cloud' (the Internet) for most is Google Docs.

If you have found Google Docs useful, then you may want to extend other business processes to the 'cloud'.

Everything from invoicing, CRM, HR tasks, Project Management to creating your own Wikis is possible at ZoHo.com.

Headwhack of the Week: How do I open .eml files?

We have all received e-mail messages, especially those that are forwards of forwards, that came with a file attachment with the .eml extension.

While most forwards of forwards are really bad jokes or 'send this to everyone you know' hoaxes, often times your curiosity might get the better of you.

The next time you are faced with this conundrum, here's how you can see what is in the attachment:

Save the attachment to your Desktop (or other location of your choice), then right-click on it and select the 'Open with' option and choose either Outlook or Outlook Express as the program to view them with!

Geek Speak of the Week: Pretexting

A form of social engineering in which an individual lies about his identity or purpose to obtain privileged data about another individual (by phone, e-mail, web forms, etc.)

Security: Firefox flaw fixed...get it now!

A 'zero-day' vulnerability in Mozilla's Firefox browser was discovered this past week, which means that as soon as the problem was discovered, code was circulating on the Internet to exploit the hole.

If you use Firefox as much as we do, then you will want to make sure and get the update, Firefox v3.5.1 ASAP!

News: Touch-screen features in Windows 7

Windows 7 continues to get favorable reviews and looks to make Vista a distant memory.  As we wait for the finalcode to get locked down, take a video tour of what Microsoft's highly-anticipated operating system will offer for touch-screen users.

News: The TCO of Smartphones

What is the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of a Smartphone? PCWorld compared the two-year total cost of ownership for eight of today's hottest smartphones, a nd found that among the top-selling models there's really not much of a price difference at all.

Data Doctors Video on Cnn.com: Are extended warranties worthwhile?

The confirmation hearings for Judge Sotomayor preempted this week's CNN segment, but fear not, we have pulled a video out from the wayback machine.  This past segment on when and when not to consider an extended warranty is a timeless topic!

Watch the video and help our rankings on CNN.com!  You can watch us live AT OUR NEW TIME every Wednesday afternoon at 2:30PM Pacific, 5:30PM Eastern or watch the archived versions of our segments whenever you want at CNN.com/video.

Opinion:  Another "death of the PC post"

The vacationing Christopher Dawson of ZDNet.com chimes in with "Really, without the Internet, a PC is just a glorified typewriter. However, using my BlackBerry, I was able to salvage a grant opportunity that almost fell through the cracks from the front seat of a canoe on Moosehead Lake in rural Maine.

Weekly Advice Column: Beware fake Adobe Flash scams

Ever run across a web page, text message or e-mail that put you in front of a video that said you need an 'updated Adobe Flash Player' in order to view the video?

If you clicked on the link and allowed the so called update to be installed on your computer, you may want to read this week's advice column (and make sure to tell your friends to read it too!)

This Week's Show: Using the Net to become a Jr 'PI'

The vocation of Private Investigator has long been romanticized in the movies and on TV and is shrouded in mystery and intrigue.

Let's face it, we all love a good puzzle and PIs are just highly paid puzzle solvers.

Before the Internet, doing any type of investigative work usually required long hours in libraries and public record houses and the skill to connect the dots.

Today, the Internet offers a plethora of resources for anyone to do some basic investigation on their own or for really skilled folks to track down just about anything or anyone.

Listen in as the Data Doctors introduce you to lots of resources that you may not have known existed for the next time you need to do a little digging of your own!

Join us Saturdays from 12:00PM-2:00PM (Pacific) on News 92.3 KTAR or listen LIVE via the Internet at KTAR.com  as we discuss your computer questions at: 602.277.5827 or ask your questions during (or before) the broadcast using the ask a question page.
