Tip of the Week: Craigslist posting tips

If you are considering using Craigslist to sell anything, there are a couple of common mistakes that you can avoid to improve your chances to ' git er done'!

Craigslist is based on the age old newspaper 'classified' section, which means you need to be short and sweet if you don't want to lose your audience.

Be as concise and short as possible in your descriptions and use bullet points to get your info across quickly.

In additions, nothing sells an item online better than a picture (or two or three).  Activity on postings with pictures tend to sell more quickly and for more money because the potential buyer doesn't have to guess what something looks like.

Headwhack of the Week: Avoiding Facebook Disasters

Facebook recently surpassed MySpace as the #1 Social Media site on the web, which means it's pretty dang popular!  Well, guess what comes with popularity on the Internet?  That's right...wierdos, hackers and stalkers.

How and what you do on Facebook can have a pretty dramatic impact on what others can do with your profile, so understanding the Privacy Options is the best way to protect yourself on Facebook (because it's way too cool and helpful to stop using!)

Security: Finjan offers free SecureTwitter browser plug-in

Web security firm Finjan began offering this week a free browser plug-in dubbed SecureTwitter that warns users when they encounter a malicious URL in Twitter, as well as in Gmail, Blogger, MSN, social networks MySpace and Bebo, news aggregators Digg and Slashdot, and the Google and Yahoo search sites.  Learn more here!

News: Activists Use U.S. Tech to Poke Holes in Iran Firewall

Tehran's demonstrators rose up by themselves. But the technology that helped them organize - and helped them connect with the rest of the planet - was funded in part by the U.S. government.

News: Michael Jackson's death themed malware campaigns spreading

The sudden death of Michael Jackson quickly opened a window of opportunity for cybercriminals to capitalize on.  A malicious spam campaign is enticing users to visit a compromised web site where a bogus Michael.Jackson.videos.scr screensaver is served.

This Week's Show: A different look at the 'Social' web

The Social side of the Internet is becoming THE story in 2009 and whether you are an active user or not, it is having an impact on the entire planet.

The election turmoil in Iran followed by the use of social media to tell a story that would otherwise be locked down is just the most recent example of the impact.

The plane crash in the Hudson River that was first documented by a Twitter user is another example of how any individual could be the one to document any event, anywhere in the world.

We leaned heavily on Social Media ourselves to spread the word about our blood drive in the Phx area this week.

Listen in as the Data Doctors broadcast live from United Blood Services (and don't forget to donate blood too!) as we discuss ways to leverage the power of the social web, many of which you probably never thought of...

Join us Saturdays from 12:00PM-2:00PM (Pacific) on News 92.3 KTAR or listen LIVE via the Internet at KTAR.com  as we discuss your computer questions at: 602.277.5827 or ask your questions during (or before) the broadcast using the ask a question page.
