Tip of the Week: Create great demos & tutorials

If you have ever had to help others use anything on their computer, are in charge of training others at your company or just want to create really helpful video instructions, then this week's tip is just what the doctor ordered!

BB FlashBack is a great program that allows you to capture anything that you are doing on your screen and add voice instructions without all of the technical hurdles that might assume would exist.

This easy to use FREE program is a no-brainer for just about anyone that has others asking them for help on anything computer related!

Headwhack of the Week: Extra editing spaces in Word 2007

If you're like me and make lots of little mistakes while typing out documents, you end up making small editing changes that can cause extra spaces or extra blank lines.

This problem was obviously common enough that Microsoft added a new set of features to deal with this in Word 2007.

To activate these new features, do the following:

  • Click on the Office button
  • Click the Word Options button
  • Click the Advanced option
  • Under Editing Options, select the When Selecting, Automatically Select Entire Word check box
  • Select the Use Smart Paragraph Selection check box
  • Click OK

Geek Speak of the Week: InPrivate Browsing

A feature of the Internet Explorer 8 that lets you surf the Web without browsing history, temporary Internet files, form data, cookies, and usernames and passwords being saved by the browser.

You can start InPrivate Browsing in IE8 by opening a new tab and selecting Browse with InPrivate. IE8 will launch a new browser session that won't record any information.

Security: Obama on cybersecurity: We're not that prepared

Cyber-terrorism threats are becoming more and more of a concern as our dependence on technology grows and being prepared for these inevitable attacks is crucial to our nations security.

So how are we doing?  According to the speech by President Obama last week, not so great...

News: Palm Pre to sync seamlessly with iTunes

The success of the iPod series of MP3 players can be directly attributable to the popularity of iTunes, which only works with Apple's devices.

Newer smartphones that are attempting to challenge the iPhone have the same problem as the competitors in the MP3 player arena when it comes to communicating with iTunes, however, according to Fortune’s respectable Apple 2.0 blog, the Palm Pre has a rather sneaky trick up its sleeve...

News: Bing: A visual tour of Microsoft's new search

Google established itself as the king of search many years ago and dominated the Search industry on the Internet. Microsoft has been chasing them every since with 'me too' attempts like Windows Live, but most have stuck with Google as their primary search.

The next generation of Microsoft's Live Search is being called 'Bing' and it is soon to be unvieled to the world.  Microsoft isn't calling it a search engine, but a decision engine and it might actually have the goods to put a dent in the Google user traffic.

Data Doctors Video on Cnn.com: Hijacked e-mail accounts

Ken's regular CNN.com segment was pre-empted last week by an appearance by the 'Governator' Arnold Schwarzenegger but not to worry, we reached into the Wayback machine and dug up this gem: Avoiding e-mail account hijacking!

Watch the video and help our rankings on CNN.com!  You can watch us live AT OUR NEW TIME every Wednesday afternoon at 2:30PM Pacific, 5:30PM Eastern or watch the archived versions of our segments whenever you want at  CNN.com/video.

Opinion: Did Google 'jump the shark' with Wave?

"Is Google Wave a threat to Microsoft or an example of Google becoming too Microsoft-like for its own good?" asks Mary-Jo Foley of ZDNet.com

Weekly Advice Column: What are 'torrents' & are they legal?

Juan wanted to know: How do ‘torrents’ work and why are they illegal? Are there any websites that you can download music, videos, movies, and other stuff for free?  We clear up this misnomer and have some suggestions for legal ways to view and listen to cool stuff!

This Week's Show: Personal Cybersecurity

President Obama just delivered a de facto State of the "Cyber Union" address and the report was that "we are not as prepared as we should be".

This same "not as prepared" report would likely be the result from a review of the average households cybersecurity status.

Obama is pledging to work on "digital infrastructure protection" to ensure that the nations networks are secure, trustworthy and resilient but we don't want you to wait for the government to protect you.

Listen in as the Data Doctors deliver their Personal Cybersecurity Stimulus Package (PCSP) so that you can protect yourself from cyber attacks!
