Poll of the Week: Which Social Media networks do you use?

Tip of the Week: Securely deleting data before selling/donating

Whether you donate, recycle or sell your old computer, keeping it out of the landfill is critical.  Another major issue to contend with is your personal information that is likely strewn throughout the hard drive.

Before you do anything with your old computer, you should give some serious thought as to what of value to an identity thief might be on the drive.  If there is anything that you need to get rid of, checkout these tips for doing just that!

Headwhack of the Week: Converting video to flash

Video can be displayed in a number of file formats, but if you want your video to have the highest compatiblity for the Internet, you'll want to convert it to an Adobe Flash file.

Whether it's for your own website, a video sharing site or for uploading to YouTube, having this handy (and FREE) converter tool around will be very helpful.

Geek Speak of the Week: Obfuscated link

A trick often incorporated in e-mail spam & phishing scams where a link that is presented actually will take the visitor to a different location. Floating your mouse over any link and looking at the status bar at the bottom can often alert you to an obfuscated link.

Security: Wife bans FBI head from online banking!

No one is immune from cyberthreats, not even the head of the FBI.

FBI Director Robert Mueller was banned by his wife from doing online banking after he nearly fell for a phishing scam, he said on Wednesday during a talk at the Commonwealth Club of California.

News: Killing cancer with social media

Drew Olanoff has infected the world with positive a disease: awareness. And he's done so by taking advantage of the interwebs.

News: iPhone Update Addresses Sporadic 'Coma' Issue

Apple on Thursday afternoon released a minor update for its iPhone OS, fixing a major bug many affected users referred to as "coma mode" where the handset would not awaken from sleep.

Data Doctors Video on Cnn.com: Password protection 4 portables

If you work in a cube farm or use a laptop computer in a lot of public places, you will want to see how Firefox, yet again, may be your best friend in safer browsing!

Opinion:   FTC Guns for Blogger Shills-and Misses

"Blogger payola is risible, but the new FTC guidelines are misguided, unenforceable, and utterly useless" says Dan Costa of PCMag.com.

Weekly Advice Column: The real threat of Credit Card Fraud

If you are one of the millions that thinks that online shopping is why credit card fraud is such a problem, you may want to read this week's advice column!

This Week's Show: Get the lead out (of our landfills!)

One This week's show will be cut short (12p - 12:30p PT) as a result of the ASU football broadcast, so we have very little time to get the word out on a very important topic: repurposing & recycling e-waste.

70% of the heavy metals in our landfills comes from discarded electronics. The lead, cadmium, mercury and dozens of other toxins used in the creation of electronic devices poses a threat to ground water if this continues.

Do your part; get your old technology down to one of the more than 40 drop off points around Arizona.

If you listen to our show outside of the state, please use the resources posted on the show page to find a responsible recycler in your community!

Join us Saturdays from 12:00PM-2:00PM (Pacific) on News 92.3 KTAR or listen LIVE via the Internet at KTAR.com  as we discuss your computer questions at: 602.277.5827 or ask your questions during (or before) the broadcast using the ask a question page.
