Tip of the Week: How To Turn Off Reply All

Microsoft Outlook users can avoid accidental replies to all by hiding the Reply All button (which is called Reply to All in Outlook 2003 and 2007). They can also set Outlook to delay the messages they send to give themselves a few seconds or minutes to catch their reply-all mistakes. Here's how to avoid hitting reply all.

Headwhack of the Week: Testing For Bad Ram

RAM sticks, known for their chip creep and random failures, are among the more annoying pieces of hardware to pinpoint as the source of a technical issue. Before you start digging around in the computer, it's best to start with a quick and free memory check via Windows. This way, you'll know whether or not it's worth swapping around sticks of RAM to see which one is the dud. Here's how to do it.

Geek Speak of the Week: Bozo Filter

A feature supported by many e-mail programs and webmail systems that enables you to block out messages from specific individuals. The list of addresses that you want to block is called a 'bozo list' or 'kill file'. Bozo filters are one way to reduce spam.

Spanky had to enable his Bozo Filter this week after requesting an individual stop emailing him. After multiple requests, 10 to be exact, the Bozo Filter was enabled.

    Spearphishing

    News: Spearphishing On The Rise

It's a dirty trick, a email that looks legit and gets you. Spearphishing means that the message is more personal and with a company that the scammers know that you do business with.

If you get a bank warning message from a bank you don't do business with (general phishing), you are immediately suspicious of the scam; if you get a personally addressed message from a bank that you do or have done business with, you are much more likely to let your guard down and fall for the scam. Read the latest here.
