Why do I have too many files on my startup list?

Question

Over 100 .exe files have been put on my startup list, including one called MORZE1.EXE. All the others have various combinations of letters and numbers. If I run a normal startup, I get a series of "Problem with Shortcut" windows which tell me that the location for the shortcut (for example MORZE1.lnk) is no longer available. I do not know how all these were added. I am now running Selective Startup, which omits those files. How do I delete the files permanently from my Startup Menu?

I have ZoneAlarm and Norton Virus 2004, neither one of which prevented these files from appearing.
