what is lost file?

I performed a Non-destructive system recovery. The instructions said I would not lose data stored on the hard disk. However, I can't locate my documents, Media Library, Shared Folder, my email was blank. Did I make a big mistake? Can I recover this information?

Click Start, click Search, and then do one of the following:

To search for a document, click Documents (Word, Excel, etc.).

To search for another file type, click Other files or folders.
