How to get back my CD-ROM drive back in Device Manager?

Question

My CDRW and DVD-ROM are lettered E and F respectively. I recently put a seconed hard drive in my computer, and the two partitios took up the E and F spots. I tried following your instructions by changing the letters of my CD-ROM drives, but the CD-ROM tree doesn't appear in Device Manager. How do I get my CD-ROM drives back in Device Manager and back on Explorer without reformatting my hard drive?

pen the cover and check the IDE cables to your drive. Take them off and re-connect them. What can quite often happen, is that the drive can become unseated. By re-connecting you can solve this problem. If the results are the same after doing this, then the chances are that your drive is dead. PLEASE NOTE: If the system is still under waranty, DO NOT open the cover. You could very well void the waranty by doing so. Take it to an authorized technician at the place of purchase.
