Why can't I download a critical update from Microsoft?

Question

Greetings,

I have windows ME. I have been trying to install the "Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands" (KB828026) patch, but it won't install properly.

Every time I select "windows update" from my start button menu, and when I'm transferred to the Microsoft update website:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Despite the numerous times that I've downloaded and installed the patch, this website says that it isn't installed on my computer. All the other patches that I receive from the microsoft update website will install on to my computer, but not this one. Any advice?

There are two ways to solve this problem when working between versions of windows. The first is when the devices exists but cannot locate the correct INF for your device. If you click on the Have Disk button and select the correct directory you will make a connection. You should have found the correct directory when you checked the original documentation. The second way is if you don’t have the original documentation, your browser can navigate in the install CD-ROM/floppy until it finds the Add New Hardware Wizard finds the correct INF file.
