This question was answered on March 1, 2005. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.

A cd-rom drive can only be use for cds. If you would like to read and write to a DVD, you will have to purchase a combination drive. Which is can be use for CD+/-RW and DVD+/-RW. You can also purchase to a DVD drive if you would like to keep them separate.
