This question was answered on March 13, 2005. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.

Turn off the laptop, insert the PCMCIA card into an available PCMCIA slot, then turn the machine back on. In newer operating systems, you may not even have to reboot the machine, you can simply insert the PCMCIA NIC.
