How can I open my CD-ROM tray again?

I press the button on my cd drive, the light flashes but the door does not open. Is there a software command I can try?

This question was answered on May 2, 2005. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.

It may be that the CD-ROM drive needs to be cleaned out thoroughly

Or

You may need to end a program that is using the CD-ROM drive (the program could have bugs that need to be fixed).

If those solutions don’t work try rebooting the machine and then attempt to retrieve the CD. You can also take a long thin (pin-like) object and insert it into the hole to push the alternate disk ejection button (housed within the drive)
