Why can't my computer recognize my RAM chip?

Question

I bought a new RAM chip and the computer won't recognize it correctly. It is 1mg and the computer is saying it's 512mb. I am positive that it's installed correctly.

The problem may lay in your BIOS settings. To access BIOS you need to hit the F12 key when your computer first starts up (You should see the computer manufacture logo). From there access your system settings or memory settings and check that your BIOS has the correct RAM settings.
