Is it necessary to shut down a LCD?

For flat screen monitor should all power be turned off, when shutting down for the day?

No, you do have to turn off your monitor when shutting down. If a monitor doesn't a signal from the computer it goes into 'sleep mode' or standby. In standby, power is cut off from everything but the connection to the system, waiting for a signal to return. Turning off the monitor won't ruin anything; just remember it's off when you start your computer up.
