AnswerThis question was answered on November 7, 2005. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting. No, you do have to turn off your monitor when shutting down. If a monitor doesn't a signal from the computer it goes into 'sleep mode' or standby. In standby, power is cut off from everything but the connection to the system, waiting for a signal to return. Turning off the monitor won't ruin anything; just remember it's off when you start your computer up.
