Why does my computer keep shutting down?

Question

WHY DOES MY COMPUTER TURN ITSELF OFF WHEN NOT IN USE?

Answer

This question was answered on February 13, 2006. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.

The most likely reason for this is that the computer is set to shut down after a certain amount of idle time. You can set the machine to stay on, shut down, hibernate, or enter standby mode when not in use, depending on your operating system. this is intended to be a power-saving measure.

I see from your profile you're using Windows 98, so if you want the computer to always stay on, folow these steps:

Click on the START button

Click Control Panel

Click Power Management

Select the "Always on" Power scheme

Make sure the "Turn off monitor" and "Turn off hard disks" boxes show "Never"

Finally, click OK or Apply to save changes.
