Compaq Presario users may encounter certain problems when upgrading from Microsoft Windows 95 to Windows 98 Such as:

- Unable to add a New User after the logon screen

- "Unhandled Exception" error message when the "Q" Easy Access Button is pressed to open Home Base.

The cause of the problem is the "HOME BASE" program that is factory installed on the following models: 1010, 1020, 1030, 1060, 1065, 1070, 1080, 3020, 3060, 4102, 4104, 4112, 4122, 4126, 4164, 4170, 4172, 4180, 4402, 4406, 4460, 4704, 4706, 4710, 4712, 4714, 4716, 4760, 4764, 4770, 4772, 4774, 4776, 4780, 4782, 4784, 4786, 6704, 6708, 8702, 8706, 8710, 8712, 8760, 8770, and the 8772.

For a fix for this and any Home Base errors go to http://www.compaq.com/athome/support/softpaq/pages/sp8671.html for the SoftPaq utility to remove the Home Base software.
