Stuck In MSDOS Mode Loop with No Way Out?

Question

Stuck In MSDOS Mode Loop with No Way Out?

Answer

This question was answered on June 15, 1999. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.

Description: Each time you turn on your machine, you are presented with the normal Windows 95 clouds, then all of a sudden you are face to face with a prompt that says "You are currently running in MSDOS mode. Hit "Y" for YES or type WIN to return to the Windows 95 operating system. And no matter how many times you do this, it keeps coming back to the same prompt. This is severely annoying and re-installing Windows will not work either. You will keep returning to this same prompt.

Solution: The next time your machine restarts, let this prompt annoy you one last time. Type EDIT CONFIG.SYS. Remove the line DOS=SINGLE from the config.sys then reboot your machine. This will allow your system to return to normal Windows operation.
