I can't change my screen settings, why?

i want to change screen size from 848-480 to 800-600 when i do it tells me thedisplay control panel is unable to change the display setting .check your display hardware in device manager. please help. thank you. ihave an Emachine monitor

I also have an emachine. I had the same problem. This problem is typical with emachines. The highest colors they have is 16. You just need to go to their website http://www.emachines.com and download the latest video drivers they have. That's what I had to do with my computer. I now have awesome colors.
