AnswerThis question was answered on July 23, 2003. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission with voluntary cooperation of UWATEC announced the recall of its Smart Dive Computers. The Smart Dive Computers alert signal system may not work properly and cause the computer screen to freeze. In turn this could cause inaccurate information to be displayed, such as water depth, ascent rate, or tank pressure, risking the safety of a diver. There has been two reports of the dive computers failing but no injuries have been reported. The recalled units are the UWATEC Smart PRO and the Smart COM dive computers. The Smart PRO is offered as a console and as a wrist unit. The Smart COM only comes in a console model. The names of each unit appear on the computer case, along with the name "UWATEC." Consumers should stop using these wrist diving computers immediately and contact UWATEC for free replacement. For more information consumers can call UWATEC American representatives at (800) 808-3948 24 hours a day, 7 days a week or register on the website at go to:
