The program recognizes sites for their creativity and innovation. There are several contenders for best site of the year in several categories, which are chosen by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.

The Academy is made up of diverse men & women who vote for the nominees. Members in the 420-person organization include Beck, David Bowie, Atsuko Kobayashi and Matt Groening.
