Don't Forget to Check that SPAM Filter

It’s time for another Data Doctors Tech Tip

We all get piles of junk e-mail every week and no matter what we do, it just seems to always get through our junk filters. We setup rules, blacklists and whitelists in hopes of creating a more harmonious inbox, but sometime we may be creating another problem: false positives.

It’s virtually impossible to not have legitimate mail end up in a spam or junk folder, whether it was because the sender used certain words or forgoet to include a subject line or their company’s domain has been blacklisted.

So today’s actually a simple reminder...check your spam filters regularly! If you’re like most of us, you’ll find important messages or old friends that are trying to contact you.

Now you don’t have to scroll through every single message, but do a couple of keyword searches based on your important contacts names or a current project that you might be working on.

When you find a message that is actually legit, use your mail system’s process for tagging the message as safe or not spam...it’s different for every mail system, but they all have the option.

Spam is here to stay and legit messages will continue geting snagged in the traps, so set a weekly reminder to check that spam filter to rescue those lost messages!
