Tracking your child's Internet & computer usage!
If you are a parent of a child that has grown up in front of a computer screen (we call ‘em screenagers!) you have probably wondered just exactly what they are doing on the computer when Mom and Dad aren’t around…
In a past episode, we showed you how you can block access to certain web sites and chat rooms as well as restrict Internet access time with a program called CyberPatrol, but some parents would prefer to have a log of what their kids are doing on the computer.
If you feel having a virtual ‘big brother’ monitoring every single keystroke that your kids type on the computer is your solution, there are a number of programs on the market that will do just that… one of our favorites is called Spy Agent. It can be installed invisibly and has a trial download available at their web site.
If you don't want to use a software program, there are hardware alternatives from companies such as KeyKatcher and KeyGhost that just plug inline with the keyboard and capture every keystroke.
How to use multiple displays on your computer!
Did you know that your computer had the option of having more than one display installed?
What was once the domain of manufacturing and design firms is available to us everyday users!
You have two options for multiple displays; add additional video cards (which is typically more technical and is more difficult to setup) or purchase a multi-headed video card that has two or more monitor connections on it.
Companies such as Matrox, Appian and PNY Technologies provide products for both Windows-based and MacOS-based systems.

Staking your claim in cyberspace!
So, you think that you have a great name for a new web site, but how do you know if the address is available and how to you aquire it?
Well, the first step is to use one of the many online databases that can tell you if your desired address is available. Two sites that are tightly connected to the Internet address database are Network Solutions and Register.com.
At either of these sights you can submit an address to see if it's available or lookup the Whois database to see if you might be able to pursuade the current owner to sell it.
If you are looking for a business web site address, don't settle for anything less than the .com version of your desired address. Most users and browsers default to the .com version of any address, so you don't want to generate traffic to someone elses web site because you have the .net version of the address.
