Tips for fighting Identity theft!
Every 79 seconds, a thief steals someone's identity, opens accounts in the victim's name and goes on a buying spree. As many as 1 in 50 of you have been the victim of Identity theft.
Most assume the Internet is allowing these thieves to grab our identities, but in many cases it is a low-tech crime.
Some basic tips for securing identity include:
- Get a good paper shredder
- Guard your SSN closely
- Monitor your credit rating at least once a year
- Opt-out of the pre-approved credit card offers
- Change drivers license # if the same as SSN
- Monitor your accounts online
