Fighting Spam with e-mail filters!
Learn how to setup e-mail message rules to delete junk messages before you even see them with our Super Geek Tip of the Week!

The new Tablet PC platform!
Microsoft's latest version of Windows is designed to allow computers to be used as Tablet PCs. Get the latest about them here!

Sending images via e-mail properly!
Today's scanners and digital cameras are capable of creating very high resolution images; too high, in fact, if you want to send them via e-mail.

The best file format for sending images is JPG or JPEG as it provides the best images at the smallest size. Try to keep images under 100 Kb for quick downloads.

Look for a specific e-mail option in your graphics program that will compress the image and don't forget to crop the picture so that you don't have the extra pixels that increase file size.

If you can't find anything in your program for creating e-mail(able) images, try this free program from TriVista called A Square Image!

Vindigo - personal navigation tools for handheld computers!
If you travel to other cities and want a personal valet to tell you everthing about the city, including restaurants, shops, services, museums, movies, and more, checkout this cool software for handhelds at Vindigo.com

What is virtual memory and how do I get more?
Virtual memory is temporary memory on your hard drive that Windows uses when it runs out of RAM (Random Access Memory). The amount of virtual memory that is used is best left for Windows to decide.

It is, however, based on available drive space, so make sure your hard drive has plenty of free drive space (a minimum of 500 Mb). You can check your available drive space by opening My Computer, then right-clicking on the C: drive and selecting Properties. If you want to try to free-up some disk space, you can click on the Disk Cleanup button (Windows XP) or run Disk Cleanup from the Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools menu.

One way of reducing the need for using the hard drive as virtual memory is to increase the amount of RAM in your system. The more RAM it has, the less often it needs to use the very slow virtual memory, which equates to a faster computing experience!

We discussed the "How much memory do I need?" question in detail on our October, 2002 radio show...look for tips in the "Resources" section.

Trivial Tech Term

TCP/IP: Transport Control Protocol / Internet Protocol

It's how we communicate on the Internet!

Think of the TCP portion as the highway and the IP portion as the cars.

Tip of the Week

Learn how to use e-mail filters to kill Spam!: Did you know that you could reduce the number of junk e-mail messages by creating 'message rules' that will delete the messages based on certain words?
