An Introduction to RSS
RSS, or Real Simple Syndication, is the darling of the Internet, and for good reason. It's an easy way for bloggers and other site owners to let their readers know when there's new content, and it allows news junkies to see what's changed on their favorite sites without visiting each one.
The old model of content is obvious: People and organizations take chunks of stuff and aggregate them into a whole. For example, a newspaper takes stories, editorials, comics, ads, and so forth and creates the paper. A blogger's individual entries are packaged as a blog. The Web, though, has changed that model to one more focused on individual items. A friend or blog might point you to just one article on popsci.com, not a whole issue. The online-music model lets you grab only the songs you want, not the whole album.
Have you tried this revolutionary web protocol? Do you want to learn how it can radically change the way you surf the Net? Tune in this weekend as Ken, Brandon, and Chad introduce the basics of RSS.
