What is task manager?

My pc does not log off when selected. After surfing the net,for about a hour,when selecting disconnect nothing happens. The pc ignores the selction and stays connected.The pop up disconnect option does not come up when the browser is closed and it has to be selected via the icon at the bottom right corner of the screen.The only way to log off is to shut down and restart.

You dont need to restart to close the browser just right click the tool bar on the bottom of the screen or simutaneously press ctrl alt del and you will be able to shut down the desired program.
