When logging on to the internet via my Compaq Presario, pictures appear unrecognizable, as small blocks grouped by the color within the picture. Almost as if tiled and out of focus. Video streaming is not affected. Also, when shutting down the computer, right before the monitor goes black, a small pastel color error message appears, sorry don't remember the title of the error, but its one that I beleive you would see when you are adjusting monitor settings

When not on the web, pictures, wall paper with pictures appear fine, no problems.

My thought is that a display driver is bad or some monitor setting has been changed.

Please help! Are there steps I can try before having to take the computer/monitor in to a tech?

What you may need to do is go to the monitor options and change the settings to default and you shouldnt be having the problem or if that doesnt help right click the background click the settings tab move the screen resolution to either 800x600 pixels or 1064x768 pixels at the highest color quality and see which one shows better.
