Did you try this

When I start up my computer it goes through the checking the master slave drives and all that, then the windows 98 screen comes up with the clouds behind it, but then it just goes to a blue screen and a bar that says Explorer, has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. and thats it, it doesn't go anywhere from there. What could be the problem and how can I fix it?
