This may be as simple as making some changes in the bios but i am not sure. I recently upgraded to windows xp from 98. As soon as i shut the computer down, the processor and everything shuts off except for the fan in the tower. It use dto shut down properly when i had 98 installed but now it doesn't. Because if this, i now have to hold in the power button for about 5 seconds in order to turn my computer back on. The power light on the computer never shuts off. I am not sure how to fix the problem. Thanks for any help.

The fan may be malfunctioning, if you upgraded yourself you may have disconnected something or messed up the connection, try going back into the and see Not certain of which power light you talk about, but you may try holding that button for a few minutes to turn it off.
