I'm having a problem with my cd burner...

I was told it has to do with the fact that I have a serial ata hard drive. The cd burner works as a normal cd rom, but not as a burner.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I'm computer savvy so don't worry about using technical terms or anything.

Before we can proceed, make sure you check the connection of your CD-RW drive, most important the jumpers making one master and the other slave on the secondary drive, it is possible to share the data cable with the Hard drive but is not recommend because make your hard drive slow.

After checking the connection, uninstall any device drivers that you had install from a CD or from windows XP, if you have the device driver that came in your CD-RW drive then use it or go to the manufacture website and see if they have the latest drivers support by windows xp Also update your application software that help you to burn CD, or you may want to invest even a better application software such as Nero burner, the latest version.

After you had check the cable and reinstall the latest drivers, go to the device manager and see if you can find the cd/dvd drive, click the plus sign and it should show all the optical drive even the CD-Rw that you just install.

If this didn't work, if you have another computer trying to install it and see if you have the same problem if you do then the problem is that your CD-RW is more likely a CD-ROM.
