What is DOS mode?

my big question is why c:/> always comes up and nothing else but blank screen.when i type somthing it saysbad command or file name.

What your situation that your computer is booting up in DOS instead of windows and when it says bad command or file name because the commands are not valid but if you just type in win it should return you to a normal screen
