Why do have a problem backing up my hard drives using a CD

Having problem backing up my hard drives using a CD.

I get an error that my hard drives and CD is read only.

I think this means that you do not have a read/write CD ROM drive, what you have is a CD ROM player that means you can only get information from the CD you cannot save any thing to it.
