I receive a lot of email like the following: "A dying girl needs financial help. If you forward this email to at least five of your friends, (and they do the same ....),each email will be tracked and five cents for every friend will be forwarded from a wealthy benefactor etc. etc. This can add up to millions."

Can forwarding emails actually be tracked, and if so, could this be someone harvesting email addresses for spam lists? It seems like more and more emails ask you to forward to others. There must be a reason.

Ernie emails can be tracked thats why the people who first send it put in that incentive to keep forwarding the email But it has not been found or determined that they use it to collect addresses for a spam list.
