What is the 1394 ports?

how do video capture cards work. can i connect my soney cam via iLINK and send directly to my external dvd (sony) burner.

This is a fire Wire that you have there and yes you can connect the sony Cam and send directly to the external dvd burner If you DVD burner support this kind of serial port and uses isochronous data transfer as well your sony Cam throught the Fire Wire.

If your Sony Cam and your DVD burner support IEEE 1394.3 standard it will give a fast performce because this is like a peer-to-peer (P2P) connection without involving the CPU of your computer
