Cursor freezes. Had ball mouse, changed to optic mouse. With ball mouse it happned frequently and with new optic mouse it happens once in a while

You using the correct drivers of you optical mouse, it will be best performance if you are using the optical mouse manufacture driver instead Windows compatible drivers.

But looking it this way, this could not be a mouse problem instead a program that is running and is taking up too many resources and open the task manager a go to the performance Open one by one a program and see which one is taking alot of resource or close all the program see if how many resource is taking If you see that is like 90 % all the time then that means that there is a background program that running.

Try not to run too many program at the same time and click so many times to an items.
