About a month ago my computer crashed. I was using an IBM p2 266mhz, 4.2 gig hd, 64 megs of RAM. all of a sudden one night it froze so i hit ctrl/alt/del 3 times to reboot it and it basically crashed (it said something abotu the HIMEM file). so i had my dad send me a copy of the file but it didn't work and i really don't think it was the problem. i was also building a new computer and thought i had ruined the cpu chip but when i brought both systems to a computer store, they said that the memory was probably bad on the old one and after checking out the cpu, they said it was fine and will still work. so i put evverything together for the new computer, i had to use the hard drive, video card, modem and floppy from the old computer but everything else was fine. i also originally didn't have a windows 98 SE disk nor a boot disk (bout it refurbished) last night i borrowed a copy of windows 98SE as well as a boot disk but now it says something about the FAT or FAT32 perrifial not being there i think. it recognises my floppy drive and i'm pretty sure it recognises the cd rom as the B: drive. i don't know m uch about DOS but i do know when you type in A: and hit enter, and then type in DIR, you'll get a list of everythign thats on the A drive. so i did that and then typed in B: and it said to place a a cd into the B drive and hit any key - there was already a disk in the B: drive so i hit enter and it then said to put a disk into the A drive nad hit any key so i hit enter as there was already a disk in there and then it brought be to the B: where i oculd type in dir etc... for some reason after i did that, i don't think it recognises the hard drive at all. so i stopped for the night. i don't want to lose anything from the HD becuase it has a lot of important information on it. what do you suggest i do?
