I take the computer off stand by the hard drive starts up but the monitor doesn't?

on occasion when I take the computer off stand by the hard drive starts up but the monitor doesn't. I reboot the system and monitor comes on but indicates it doesn't recognize the mouse or keyboard. The second reboot everything is normal and remain normal for sometimes days but again today it screwed up.............any clues is stand by the problem? bug? appreciate any help you can give. Thanks

Try shutting down completely instead of leaving the computer on standby all the time.
