When adding any new hardware where is's detected as soon as it's plugged in and the system automatically comes up with Dialog box ( Updating hardware information database). This dialog box hangs and the small guage never increments. I have to reboot to get out of it. The system operates correctly otherwise except it sometimes hangs when it is very near complete in its boot cycle ( stops in starting some of the tasks defined in the lower of the desktop- volume- virus- zone alarm). Will boot ok the second time

I have tried to reload ME, but something very similar happens ( hangs just before it starts copying the files from the CD. ) Is this a registry problem ?

I also run Norton's system works

thanks

Ed

Try disabling the antivirus program an then install the device Sometimes the antivirus program would prevent us from instaling new software and sice you know that by adding hardware you are also adding software.
