CD ROM problems???

My cd rom devices work but the computer wont read or open the cd that i put inseide any cd.I went to device manager and there are exclamation points on my cd rom drivers.I can't update or roll back or nothig.The message that comes out is the followinfg:"windows cannot start this hardware device because it's configurations(in the registry)is incomplete or damaged" How do I solve this problem?

You may want to go to www.microsoft.com and download all critcal updates for windows XP then you should check out www.driverguy.com and donwloadall the drivers for the CD ROM that you are using make sure that they are the onces that go along with the XP OS if you do not do this the CD ROM will not be able to work at all
