How to clear vertical lines on my monitor?

monitor boots up like poor tv reception with vertical lines and clears up somewhat when online, but still has faint vertical lines on the screen. Can you explain this problem?

You may need to upgrade your graphics card driver.

If you have an ATI card then download:

http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html

If its a Nvidia card then download:

http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

Install the drivers and this will solve your problem.
