I have heard about one person building a FTP server among his three friends at a school drom. The dorms have the T1 connection supplied by the school as a part of ResNet. Every school does this! My friend says those three people get double the speed anyone else gets. First of, what is a FTP Server? And how do I create this using my DSL connection and between me desktop and laptop?

You have to check with your dsl provider to see if they allow for FTP servers to run on there network If they do which is highly unlikely you would have to setup a server, eighter with windows 2000 or NT, there is also FTP software one that comes at the top of my head is FTP pro You could probably get it online, I also think that you could download it from Download.com for a trial and then purchase it after the trial runs out The software is easier to use then setting up a server based FTP But then again it depends on your DSL provider allowing you to use a FTP from there network.
