How do I set my folder preferences?

I have lost the ability to set my folder preferences. I can change them and the file will be fine. the next time I open that file it changes back to details. I have been trying to fix this for a couple of weeks.

Right click the START button, and choose EXPLORER.

Choose the folder you are having trouble with and in the folder you choose, go to the MENU bar and click on VIEW.

A drop down list of choices will appear, click on LARGE ICONS, and the DETAILS feature should be removed.

Close the window and go back to the same folder, it should reflect what you changed it to,

LARGE ICONS.
