My computer gets this blue screen with

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to you computer.

Please check hardware and software... blah blah blah...

I believe that it has something to do with me having about 8 hardware things all sharing IRQ 9

You may want to try running in safe mode to see if you can access XP, if there is any new hardware that you installed make sure that it is compatible with XP and that you have all the latest drivers for it, also you may want to check the devices setting to make sure that there is no problem - if this persist you may need to do a reinstall of XP.
