Hi there, my initial problems started with the monitor going blank, like a screen saver but it wouldn't come back on. I installed xp pro(first time of many) the next fault was it would auto shutdown immediately after start up, then it failed to read the hard drive, then the video card failed. i changed the video card, reinstalled xp and it lost a file to start xp, i decided to change the 300w power supply, i reinstalled xp, with the original video card. I installed all the rcommended updates for xp including sp1 & driver updates from nvidea. all went well for two days now the piece of carp fails to read from the hard drive. file missing. please don't tell me to take it to a shop cos i would like to get this sorted myself.(with a bit of help from you)

It sounds like a video driver issue I would check with the manufacturer of the video card and monitor to see if the XP is compatible with both and make sure you have the latest drivers from them
