I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 series laptop, with a DVD/CD-RW drive. I am deployed overseas in a very sandy/dusty enviornment and my DVD player recently stopped responding to DVDs but it would continue to operate regular audio CDs and program CDs. After I tried to clean the lens with an air can, the drive fails to respond to any type of CD. Is my cdrom now destroyed or can I save it (and some $) somehow? Thank you.

Between the sandy enivironment and the air can spraying it might well be Try a cd lens cleaner If that doesn't work, then your drive is gone Hope this helps.
