My computer keeps freezing. Help?

I have a pretty much do it yourself computer that I bought about 2 years ago at Fryes that has an athalon processor and everything worked fine until about a month ago it seemed that some kind of virus infected my CPU because when I moved my mouse around the screen back and fourth the pointer on the screen would freeze and then my tower/hard drive would beep. I just rebooted my CPU with the windows xp disk and I thought that this would take care of the problem but my computer is still doing the exact same thing.

Try booting with a anti-virus program/ disk utility Otherwise you may have to reformat your Hard Disk, and reinstall your OS.
