I have inadvertantly changed the default file association for all my shortcut files. How can I restore the default .lnk file association to open the respective program the shortcut refers to?

To answer your question, right-click on the file you wish to change the association, select "open with" then "choose program", select the program you wish to associate the file with and make sure that the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" check box is checked then click the ok button This will ensure that that particular type of file will always open with the associated program.
