HOW DO I STOP MY COMPUTER FROM RESTATRTING?

ok my computer keeps restarting on its own. tryed closing all programs and tryed leaving them dont seem to matter what it is that im doing. if i leave it off for few hours then boot it back up it will run for 10-40 mins then restart, then boot back up then less time and restarts again eventually it will boot back up with no picture on my screen. did a full virous scan...No dice..got newest vid card drivers...no dice not sure what else to look for. anyhting would be helpfull really dont want to take it in to shop just yet if it can be helped.

SINCE IT SEEMS THERE ARE NO VIRUSES, AND THE DRIVERS ARE IN PLACE AND RUNNING, I SUGGEST YOU USE THE XP DISK, OR IF NOT AVAILABLE, A WINN 2000 CD TO PERFORM ERROR RECOVERY, HOPFULLY, IT WILL DETECT ANY DAMAGED OR CORRUPTED FILES, AND RE-INSTATE THEM IF NOT, USE AN ERD TO BACK UP NEEDED FILES AND RE-INSTALL THE O/S
